Weather is the main driving force to seasonal change & fresh produce can unfortunately become quickly affected.

We understand that sometimes there's not much scope to change menus, but when Mother Nature strikes, sometimes items can become hugely affected quickly.

Keep your eyes peeled on this page to see what should be avoided.

After a gap in supply for these potatoes, we are now seeing these back into full swing but watch out, the prices are still high.

The season is coming to an end for peaches and apricots, some nectarines still linger for a short period of time.

Spanish plums have been having issues but we should see new French and Italian product coming in very shortly, Damson plums are still around but about to end due to a very short season.

The season has now ended for the UK cherry, we will start to see USA crop coming through soon but the price will be significantly higher.

The Tomlinson's rhubarb crop is still available but coming to an end, the Dutch forced crop will start to come through in October.

We have seen the weather causing a few supply issues with blackberries at this moment in time, we are expected to see this improve as we move further into September.

We have low demand on red currants at this moment, they are available on-pre order as a result.

Essential Cuisine

In 2020, Essentual Cuisine and Solina put sustainability at the core of its business model, building a team to ensure that sustainability is at the heart of everything they do.

The team have eliminated black plastic from their entire branded range, in doing this they've diverted waste from landfill as black plastic can be difficult to recycle. Since 2022, Essential have removed 110,000 black plastic pots from their Premier Jus line alone!

All poly propylene plastic pots, lids and clear PET jars are 100% recyclable. All tasting cups, cutlery, plates and bags used at shows and demos are either 100% compostible: bamboo, palm leaf, paper based, or starch alternatives, eliminating any single use plastic - since 2020, over 6000 plastic forks have been prevented from ending up in landfill. All Premium Instant and Frozen ranges were also launched in FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approved cardboard boxes and Signature Jus cartons, amazing!

Development chefs at Essential consistently work to develop recipes reducing food waste, with products that are designed to have a long shelf life, with easy to use application and versatility. With the help of Love British Food, the team strive to promote local, in-season ingredients in all recipe inspiration and applications, with over 450 different ideas available on www.essentialcuisine.com

We can see the team are working on solutions to reduce single use plastic further in their hunt for alternatives to packaging such as box tape, bubble wrap and reconfiguring palletisation to reduce the number of pallets sent out, in turn reducing emissions. As well as reducing printed materials, converting flyers and brochures to digital formatting. To top it off, the electricity supplied to Essential is sourced entirely from green energy!

Since 2018, Essential Cuisine have donated over £20,000 to charities such as Crisis, St Luke's Hospice and Hospitality Action, as well as regularly volunteering for various local and national charities.

The Majority of their products already meet 2024 salt responsibility targets - how fantastic is that?
